Career Summary
After graduating from his undergraduate degree, Stephen worked for several years as a senior accountant and management consultant with Touche Ross & Co and KPMG in Brisbane within their management and consultancy and international business services divisions. Stephen is employed as a full-time lecturer in the School of Accountancy at the Queensland University of Technology teaching a range of undergraduate and postgraduate financial accounting and law subjects. Stephen has also been heavily involved in the establishment of the new Accountancy Capstone unit. Stephen is a regular presenter for both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and CPA Australia in their professional modules and the author of several accounting books and refereed journal articles. He has provided consultancy services to several Queensland Government departments, chartered accountancy firms, and listed Australian companies on a range of taxation and IFRS Issues.

Stephen's research interests have a particular emphasis on the nature and extent of tax-deductible charitable giving in Australia. More recently, he has been involved in the Government Chart of Accounts Project, which is designed to create a standard Chart of Accounts that nonprofit organisations will be able to use in reporting back to grant making or funding government departments. Stephen has also worked on commercial research projects involving the Queensland Rugby Union and the Department of Communities.
