Jo Hammill, Bachelor of Business (International Business/Economics) / Bachelor of Arts (International and Global Studies) graduate

Jo Hammill – Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Arts graduate

'I didn't know much about international trade and logistics when I started University. Studying export management gave me a taste for it, and I followed this with an elective in international logistics.

'My international business major, with study in international trade, economic competitiveness and Asian business made me attractive to Maersk – the largest containerised seafreight business in Australia.

'I now have a world of opportunities at my feet. A career with a huge global company is exactly the sort of job I wanted.'

Jo Hammill graduated in 2005 with a double degree in Business and Arts, with majors in economics, international business and international and global studies. She commenced her career in international logistics with Maersk Line Australia in January 2006.

Your favourite music store is on the other side of the globe yet accessible from your lounge room. While you’re downloading an mp3, someone in Germany is buying components made in South-East Asia from Australian iron ore, for a luxury car to be sold through a car dealership in New York.

Every day, companies sell goods, buy components, and deliver services and products to people and countries internationally.

A major in international business will give you expertise and skills that are in demand by local and foreign firms, both in Australia and around the world. You'll have options early in your career, gain lifelong career mobility and be ready for promotion and opportunities wherever they arise within international firms.

If you’ve ever wondered how one business can operate in hundreds of countries around the world, and would like to open yourself up to career options in global industries, consider study in international business.
