Adam Fitzhenry, Bachelor of Business (Public Relations/Marketing) graduate

Adam Fitzhenry -  Bachelor of Business (Public Relations / Marketing) graduate.

‘What do I like about my job? Everything! I always knew that I wanted to work in big business; something about it fascinated me. I get to put my skills to work on internal publications, strategic plans, sponsorships and more. Plus, I get to travel all over Australia and New Zealand. At QUT, the course was interactive, with real-life examples and projects to work on. In fact, we got to present to a real client, and I even got a couple of job offers out of this hands-on, real-world experience.  In my final year, I joined the mentoring program, which really helped me choose my career path.’

Adam’s practical experience at QUT helped him secure a position as Communications Advisor for Leighton Contractors, where he gets to put theory into practice on major mining projects. Adam was recognised in 2008 with a Golden Target Award, the highest national award from the Public Relations Institute of Australia, for his innovation in communicating with remote workforces.

Are you intrigued by how organisations manage their reputations, raise their profiles in the community and work with the media to promote their activities? Are you interested in a career designing and coordinating communication and promotional activities such as websites, newsletters, media kits, annual reports and special events?

Public relations is a growing field and is becoming more critical in an era where corporate social responsibility is increasingly important. Organisations realise the value of their reputation with the community, their customers, and the business and political environment, and have a need to explain their activities to the community.

If you are good at writing, organising, have creative flair and the ability to think big, consider a career in public relations.
